SERIOUS ABOUT SAILING?
LDYC members compete spiritedly in the year long racing calendar events on the Dam and in provincial and national competition. The club is fully equipped for sailing enthusiasts :
Non-competitive sailors at LDYC participate actively in the year-long calendar of blissful and romantic weekend social cruises which overnight at several destinations around the Vaal Dam.
LDYCs claim to fame is the annual hosting of the Round the Island Race in February every year. Established in 1958, it is the largest inland yacht race in the world and sailors compete from all over the country. The record entry was 721 boats. In 1999, 453 boats competed for the honours. On average, 1,800 sailors and 3,300 visitors descend on the Club grounds to participate in the fun, festivity and challenge of the race.
POWER-BOATERS ARE WELCOME!
Unlike many Yacht Clubs, we welcome powerboats. A dedicated slipway for launching is provided
